Hold Me Tight, Hold Me Safe, Hold Me Now

About this piece: In this piece, I explore how quickly time moves through motherhood. What was once growing inside of me, completely dependent on my body for life, slowly becomes a person of their own.

There is a quiet heartbreak in realizing that motherhood is a constant act of letting go. We begin as their entire world—their source of comfort, safety, nourishment and life—and little by little, our role changes. We hold their hands as they learn to walk, guide them as they discover the world, and eventually watch as they begin to find their independence.

Hold Me Tight, Hold Me Safe, Hold Me Now lives as a memory of what was once only ours: those fleeting moments when they still fit completely within our arms. It is about wanting to hold them a little tighter, keep them safe a little longer, while knowing that loving them also means allowing them to become their own person.

To me, this piece is both a memory and a reminder—to hold onto the moment while it is still here.
