About this piece: This artwork was inspired by a moment when my son told me he was enjoying school, but still missed me. His words stayed with me as I found myself learning to navigate this new chapter alongside him.
I painted this piece with that feeling of wanting to hold him close, even as I watch him become more independent. The embrace holds both my desire to keep him near and my understanding that he needs room to grow.
Through this painting, I reflect on what it means to watch my child’s world expand beyond my arms, while hoping he always knows he can return to them.
